Textile-Pattern Design

This textile-pattern design draws inspiration from camouflage. The design is intended, to be suited in rainforest- and dessert terrain. Striving for multi-functionality within the harsh terrain of both an arid- and equatorial climate.

With a target consumer base, ranging from women as well as men, anywhere in-between their twenties to their fifties. It is fitted for the determined survivor or explorer. While at the same time proving the stylish, and camouflaging technique in a symmetric pattern.

Designed with the character Nathan Drake as role model. Drawing inspiration and looks from the Blue Poison Dart Frog and Honey Badger. Made to be an intelligent design, that brings the aesthetically pleasing through symmetry and The Golden Proportion.

Showpiece

These sketches starts of vaguely with only the inspiration material in mind. As it develops further through the process they get more organized, and repetitive. While testing out different kind of combinations, and in the end creating something close to being the final design.

The final pattern design shows the definitive colors, witch matches both the environments and the inspiration material. These consist of two designs mostly based on the blue-dart-frogs camouflaging techniques. While the rest derives primarily form the environment. Except the top right being a match of the badgers fur, and the definitive colors

The textile design keeps a clean style while at the same time providing abilities that fit all of the criteria. Being a camouflage pattern, as well as proving the much needed temperature balances through the fabric, and changeable capabilities.

Zine Design

Sketches

These sketches are ranging from textile to pattern design. Going through multiple materials and colors to match the inspiration material. They are placed in chronological order, showing from the top left corner to the bottom right.

They range from very specific to a complete mess of brainstorming. They are to give a visual representation of the process in creating this specific product.

These sketches starts of vaguely with only the inspiration material in mind. As it develops further through the process they get more organized, and repetitive. While testing out different kind of combinations, and in the end creating something close to being the final design.

This zine-design is based on the gothic font. Showing pages with a front and back next to each other, this pamphlet was designed as a miniature showpiece. With restricted priorities, as well as three personal pages.

The front is showing a symbol designed on ones initial. The back is showing some basic contact information. The second page shows a small text, while the third- & fourth page show the alphabet.

The fifth page shows a personally designed letter. This is the letter X, in the form of a parachuting man. The only inspiration for this design was the letter X. It had only to be unique.

On the Sixth page is a list of movies still in the gothic font. One the second to last page, is a self-portrait, made up of words in gothic font.

Showpiece

This is the final design, or at least the final design in 2 dimensions. A zine is basically a pamphlet, and this is the pamphlet before it is folded. The zine is purely folded and with a few cuts. So this the product, in its A3 form.

Due to the way a zine is folded, the difference between top and bottom has to be that the pictures are upside-down. Therefore this work is shown from both angles.

The blue symbol in the lower-left-corner, representing an F & C, is the front, whereas the picture to its left is the back. Because of how the zine is folded, one will start in the lower-left-corner and turn the pages counter-clockwise until reaching the backside, exactly left of the front.

This zine was build to be a promotion of one-self in the form of a pamphlet. Showcasing ones abilities within the fields of layout and typography

It’s a strictly black & white design, with the exception of the front, standing out from the rest, in a certain blue ink color.

Comic Design

Sketches

These sketches shows the process from, making a symbol out of an F & C, to getting at the final sketch, before finish. On the second page is a startup of figuring out an idea for a new X font. This continues to the third, where it just gets more crazy. Finally on the fourth page finished X design resides

The fifth page shows how the symbol design transformed through a uncertain start to the final idea. Going through different ideas as to which letter, then finally deciding on the combination of an F & C. How these to letters fit together, and how they can create a symmetry with a gothic font as inspiration.

The final page is the last sketch before the final, and it shows what ideas went into this zine.

Based on a story, this comic design was without any major restrictions. It is designed while keeping a short, comical novel in mind. Consisting only of 4 major characters. This showpiece is a snippet of it, shown as a storyboard.

With no real restrictions this design is made up with any big inspirations. Due to the comical tone of the story, on which it is based, this also the most ridiculous design here.

The story consits of inly 4 major characters, which are; a cyborg husband, a thrashy wife, an evil, and terrifying doctor, and last, but not least the kinky and off-putting mailman.

The story goes:

A husband and a wife-in-labour were heading for the hospital. When greeted at the hospital by the doctor, they got the option to reduce some of the labour pain. This would be done through a technique were the father would get some percentages of the pain. The husband and wife agreed that they would like to try it. After the procedure began, the doctor cranked the machine up to 10%. While the wife was in great pain, and the husband was not able to feel anything, so the doctor cranked it up further. Now at 20% the husband just shrugged, and said they could go further. At 50% the wife was starting to feel far better, and the husband were showing no signs of pain. The doctor then cranked it to a 100, but still nothing happened.

Getting the baby the married couple returned home. The wife was happy that the last part had been so easy. And the husband was confused as to why he did not hurt at all. Upon driving to homely environments, they noticed someone was lying completely still beside their mailbox. When the couple emerged from the car, they found that it was their mailman, dead.

Sketches

These sketches mostly consist of character design. Ranging from figuring out your character. What kind of wife should be represented, and in that case what kind of husband would fit well.

Figuring out how the 3 main characters are going to look, what kind of traits which could fifth their personality well. Whether one in the couple is more bossy than the other. Is labor doctor a standard, goody-two-shoes, or evil menacing man?

Who is the mailman and what is his relations with the wife? These are all relevant questions that needs to be answered throughout the process.

Finally the environments are just as important. Will they have to fit the character, or would it be more interesting for them to differ?

The layout of the storyboard and how the final comic would be designed is sketched in the final page. On the last and fourth there is beginning ideas as to where the characters will go, and what kind of snippet will be represented in the storyboard.

Showpiece

The storyboard and the final product takes place in the scene, where the wife is giving birth. Showing the husbands reaction, while the doctor adjusts the device.

This is a basic sketch of how it could look if depicted as a movie. These storyboards, as they are only a reference, are not completely accurate though.

Finally these are kept in low-toned colors to keep the aesthetics of a storyboard, and with a partial background for showcasing the dim lightning, in this rather haunted hospital.

Enviroment Design

This environment-design is based of building an installation for the design national museum of art. It was derived from happiness, edges, dirt and outside. Using these four words as inspiration, the design was fairly limited.

The setting provides for great capabilities, so building an installation for meet-ups, and general socializing, was seemingly straightforward. This design strives for something, which could match the, rather dull backside of the art museum.

The end product was to be a miniature sculpture of the final design. The entire process was within a rather short time limit of 4 days. The installation was made, with a few 3-dimensional sketches, and the majority in hand sketches. It was made with focus on a clean style, and an artistic view, due to its setting.

Sketches

There are two sets of sketches here. The first consisting of a mixture of both beginning, and final sketches. Testing out the inspirations while, and making up a plausible design for this specific location.

This first page is at the same time a try, at figuring out how, to produce this kind of a 3-dimensional model. These designs have a red color code, just to separate them from the rest, while at same time, testing out how it affects such a mixed batch of sketches.

The second piece is consisting of the final design. The idea behind this product and process, was to make something, which could function with a certain versatility. The versatility would lie in the inspiration from edges, which ended up being more or less boxes. This product could have multiple different outcomes, if it had to be made anywhere else.

The true idea of this installation was to mimic a jetty, because of a small lake close to the setting, and at the same time creating a social meeting place. Adjusted to fit a broad variety of people who just want to hang out, or meet up, a setting very similar to the one, which the national museum provides.

For this second sketch piece the different colors provide an overview, and idea of how this design would be capable in the intended versatility. Besides again being a test, in the how to execute such a finish.

Showpiece

This design is the final 3-dimensional product of a long process, involving designing an installation to match The Danish, National Museum of Art. It draws inspiration and functionality social gatherings, and that of a jetty (due to its location).

It’s glass parts, and overall boxy look is to create a versatile design, a recyclable design, that is steady and connected to the earth. The glass specifically is there for the contrast and to provide asymmetry.

The remaining four pieces on the smaller vertical page, are 3-dimensional sketches as to alternate outcomes, but the horizontal page represents the finished design.

Layout Design

This design was build around Danish play on words, and how to interpret the multiple meanings of the word ‘dør’, which means both death & door. The message for this layout was to be either preventing or supportive for families/ kids in a split house.

The assignment was to make a Facebook banner, a Facebook profile picture, and finally a half-page article to fit within a Danish newspaper. The format had to exact in the respective measurements.

Beyond these restrictions, the assignment was rather straight forward, and as to how the message would come across was the only big challenge.

Sketches

From a converting the multiple meanings of the word ‘dør’ and to figuring out the layout of the page, these sketches are very different. Though they seem like east and west these pieces have an overall similarity and combine this very difficult topic.

Starting with a few stamp sketches, this idea and meaning started to transform into something, which could be grasped. First of all, this entire process starts out with a mood-board, an inspirational piece, to set the mind at peace.

Later on this turns into an interpretation of ‘Kronk’, a character from a Disney show, to converting the overall message, into a question; “are you the one exiting the door? Cause we beg to differ!

Finally this design strived for a homely, or neutral character to bring this message through a campaign.

Architectural Design

This 3-dimensional design was intended for a city. The inspiration material was, that it had to be amongst 11 other buildings, in a 12-parted, floating city. This building represents the scientific and the research center.

In the idea of creating a visual of a hub for knowledge, this building would stand out functioning as both the educational, and development sphere.

This process was rather straightforward with few limitations. The inspiration lay within the functionality of the building and how it would fit in with the rest of the city.

Showpiece

his is the final design. Represented through a 2 dimensional view. The final product showcases the scientific hub as it is intended. Large stairs, formed from books, leading up to majestic and grand door.

Pillars, and the greatness that follows with technological advance inspire the front or the façade. Combining a longing for a space, through an observatory, with a weather-changing module, creates the roof, and upper levels of the institute.

Pattern Design

Sketches

As this is a 3-dimensional product, the sketches brand for figuring out a form, to the details. They start out rough and unfinished. Brainstorming. Creating visual organization. Finding a figure that would fit this exact design.

Later concepts begin to take forms and slowly the a building type is agreed upon. A large cube, or so to say, as the foundation for the rest. How to describe it? And what would fit in nicely?

Ideas in forms of an observatory, laser, atoms, books, atlas, or water all take a shape. Should it be affected by lighting, and would it look different in the night? These are all relevant in deciding the finished product.

Finally comes the details, in what shape the façade will take, and how the backside should look. Will it be connected to water, since it is a floating city. The ideas of a water pump occurs, maybe a water purifier or a hydrogen generator.

Finally all of these ideas accumulate into a somewhat representing sketch, of the finished and final design.

Made with a late deadline, this design was made with a bit more quality. The inspirational material was as follows; Snorlax as a role model, the large and various environments of Arica, the robotics, and mechanics behind living machines, such as cyborgs, and elegance.

The design was made- and intended for use as a textile pattern on comfortable furniture, in lounge environments. All of the patterns are in report.

Sketches

These early sketches mostly functions as inspirational material. Combining all of ones inspiration into boards, this including a mood board. Concentrating all of the material into a more narrow perspective.

In the process resides the way of combining the mechanics with Africa’s wide, and various nature, while at the same time thinking of how Snorlax could fit in. Finding the elegance in these works and finally making them into a finished product.

Showpiece

These are all patterns in different colors, to match them respectively. The final patterns are all in report, and can be repeated on end for creating, textile of fabric sheets. These depict biology and technology combined, while at the same time creating a certain flow

These include a mix of Snorlax, and softness of his shapes. The second pattern are of trees interlining, while the last shows how technology very well derives from nature, through the similarities between the veins of a leaf, and a network of data, or computing part.
